Why should I work with a personal trainer?

Most people find that if they have a trainer, they are more likely to actually show up to work out. A knowledgeable trainer also will help you sort fitness fact from fiction, and can make sure that your workout fits your needs and goals. Compare this to the "one size fits all" of the machine circuit at your gym.

Clients often say that what we do at Esopus Strength & Fitness Fitness is "subtle," because you can feel the difference when an exercise is done in proper form, with the right amount of resistance.

At Esopus Strength & Fitness, there is no loud music; there are no mirrors; there is no clanging of weights. In that setting, a set of biceps curls done in perfect form can be like a meditation - body and mind are in tune and totally in the present moment.

Why should I work with you?

I've "been in the trenches" of resistance training for many years - I know all the things not to do from bitter personal experience. That's why I put my clients' safety above all. That's why I continue to learn, and why I work with my own trainer three days a week. I will not let a client do an exercise that I would not feel safe or comfortable doing myself. I also have a good sense of humor, and I will never, ever yell at you to "do just one more." I'm like your mom or your grandmother, with muscles.

If I choose to train with you, how much time will it take me each week?

To be effective, we need to do at least two workouts each week. Each workout lasts from a half-hour to an hour, depending on your personal needs. If you are not already doing some form of aerobic exercise, I will work with you to plan a movement program that you can pursue at the studio with me or on your own on other days.

Will working with weights interfere with my sports specific training?

In planning your program, I take your sports-specific needs into account. For example,we would address the muscle imbalances that may be caused by long hours of running or biking. The bottom line is that resistance training can make you stronger and faster and help prevent injury, whatever your sport.

I want to lose weight. Can you help me?

We specialize in working with clients who would like to lose weight. We do not offer a "magic bullet" of crash diets, supplements or crushing workouts. Instead, we work with you to achieve a healthy lifestyle that can be sustained over time. Our proven system emphasizes a synergistic combination of resistance training to build lean muscle, strategies for happy and healthy eating, and everyday movement.

We like to think of this process as "gaining energy,"  instead of "losing weight."

What is Wellness Coaching?

A wellness coach partners with you (and your medical professional, if appropriate) to help you meet your health goals, whether you want to achieve a healthy weight, become smoke-free, or just add more spring to your step. We help you set achievable goals, work with you to devise a program to meet those goals, and support you with the knowledge and understanding to keep you on-track and motivated.

Where are you located, and is there parking?

Our street address is 572 Old Post Road, Esopus, NY, on the grounds of Frog Hollow Farm. We are conveniently located just off SR 9W 20 minutes north of the Poughkeepsie Bridge, about mid-way between Kingston and New Paltz, at 572 Old Post Road. There is parking next to the studio.

What are your hours of operation?

We are by appointment only. We are available for strength-training appointments and wellness consultations from 7 AM to 6 PM, 7 days a week.
